A small edit, made visible
Our original meeting-note example changes “Meeting: Thursday” to “Meeting: Friday,” keeps “Room: Cedar,” revises the sentence about bringing a draft, and adds an attendance request. In line mode the result has three added lines, two removed lines and one unchanged line. Choose Load example, then Compare texts to try it.
An edited line normally appears as a removal followed by an addition. That records both versions; it is not a claim that the whole document was rewritten. Use word mode to inspect smaller edits inside a sentence.
Choose a useful comparison mode
Line comparison is easy to scan for lists, configuration snippets and structured text. Word comparison keeps whitespace segments, so a changed space remains a real difference. Case and punctuation are compared exactly. Windows CRLF and old-style CR line endings normalize to LF; a final newline still matters.
A moved passage can appear as a removal at one position and an addition at another. Read changes in context rather than treating the count as a quality score. This tool compares the two texts you supply; it does not judge which wording is better.
Use a local text file or paste a section
The optional file controls read UTF-8 text directly in this browser. JSON, CSV and Markdown are treated as text, not parsed into a different data model. For a long document, compare a meaningful section within the stated browser limits. PDF, Word documents, images and binary files are not supported inputs here.
Keep a readable record
Copy report places the comparison in your clipboard when the browser permits it, with a manual-copy fallback. Download text report creates a real UTF-8 text file on your device. It contains the normalized original, changed version and marked differences. This readable report is not an automatically applicable patch.
Does anything sync or get published?
No comparison is saved to a server, made public or synced into the mobile app. Your entered content is not included in website measurement. Refreshing or leaving the page may clear this temporary comparison; save your report or keep your original files.
What if my inputs are identical?
The result says so and shows the unchanged content. If one side is empty, the comparison shows the other version as all additions or all removals. If both sides are empty, the form asks for text instead of producing a misleading empty result.
